Building Our Team in our Nation’s Birthplace

3252 On Tour: Philadelphia

“The boys just landed in Philly,
the boys just landed in Philly,

the boys just landed in Philly,
we’re going to build a team!”

Los Angeles Football Club selected a handful of players and continued to build a team only a few miles away from where America's founding fathers built a nation.

Members of The 3252 hopped red eye flights, packed up layers upon layers and left the comfortable 70-degree Los Angeles winter only to be enveloped by a brisk, near-freezing breeze in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania – host city of the 2018 MLS SuperDraft.

The 3252 gathered on the morning of Jan. 19 in the center of Philadelphia’s City Hall, warming up with chants that echoed throughout the courtyard. Marching toward the convention center singing “Black and Gold” and “L.A. Football Club,” we passed pretzel stands and Wawa stores on our way to witness club history.

Supporters from other MLS clubs (Philadelphia Union, New York City FC, New York Red Bulls and D.C. United) welcomed our crew and recognized our commitment to LAFC as the loudest group in the building.

LAFC’s front office and coaching staff, including Head Coach Bob Bradley, President Tom Penn, and Executive Vice President John Thorrington, deliberated over who would become our first-ever MLS SuperDraft selections.

Prospective draft players sat in wait right next to The 3252. When Joao Moutinho and Tristan Blackmon – LAFC’s first and second draft picks – were selected, they were welcomed with raucous cheers.

“I see you there 3252, thank you,” Moutinho said after MLS commissioner Don Garber announced him as LAFC’s first selection.

“I’m very excited to hit the ground running. I’m ready to go,” Blackmon said.

LAFC’s third selection, Pol Calvet Planellas was not in attendance. Only rounds 1 and 2 were held at the convention center.

After countless cheesesteaks and plenty of banter with other soccer supporters, The 3252 traveled more than 2,000 miles back home to prepare for our inaugural season.
